All India Coordinated Research
Project (AICRP)
The Directorate coordinates and
monitors the network project of All India Coordinated Project on Poultry
Breeding, being implemented in a total of 10 centres located in different
Agricultural/Veterinary Universities and ICAR institutes. The primary objective
of the project is to develop high yielding stocks of broilers and layers for
commercial farming and thereby make the country self-reliant. Besides, another
component of rural poultry was added and being implemented at Agartalaa and
Jabalpur.
AICRP on
Poultry for Egg
Objectives
1. To
evolve high yielding strains/strain crosses with average performance of 305
eggs with more than 54 g of egg weight at 40 wks of age and less than 1% layer
house mortality per month.
2. To
estimate genetic gains from selection in the principal and correlated traits.
3. To
compare the different breeding methods for improving the principal performance
traits.
Network Canters
1.
Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Hyderabad
2.
Kerala Agricultural University, Mannuthy
3.
Anand Agricultural University, Anand
4.
Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar
AICRP on
Poultry for Meat
Objectives
1. To
evolve a commercial broiler with at least 1700g body weight at 6 wks of age,
with feed efficiency of less than 2.00 and mortality less than 5 per cent up to
5 wks of age.
2. To
estimate genetic gains from selection in the principal and correlated traits.
3. To
compare different breeding methods for improving the principal performance
trait and reduction in size of broiler dam line through introduction of dwarf
gene.
Network Canters
1.
Karnakata Veterinary, Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Bangalore
2.
Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneshwar
3.
Guru Angad Dev University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Ludhiana
4.
Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar
Objectives
1. To
test various stocks developed for rural poultry production at both on farm as
well as at farmers door for suitability of different germplasm developed for
rural poultry production for backward and tribal areas.
2. To
record various growth and production traits, phenotypic appearance,
adoptability behaviour, scavenging feed base, housing and earning data etc.
both at on farm as well as at farmers’ door.
3. To
develop newer varieties of chicken for rural/tribal poultry farming
