he staff members actively participated in the closing ceremony of the campaign on “Swachhata Hi Sewa”. On this occasion Director, ICAR-DPR delivered a lecture Swachhata. Principal, Krishi High School was the Guest of the function. Madam, Mrs. Rukmini also spoke on this occasion. The winners of different competitions held at Krishi High School, Rajendranagar, were awarded with prizes by the Director, ICAR-DPR.

 DPR staff visited Anganwadi school, Premavathipet, Rajendranagar and actively participated in cleaning the premises of the school. Further, the staff also spread awareness about “Single use Plastic”. The children were also advised not to use plastic bags, plastic disposable glasses etc. which can pollute the environment.

Training to SC farmers (Aug, 2019)

Training on “Backyard Poultry Rearing” under SCSP (28-08-2019)

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organised one day training programme on “Backyard Poultry Rearing” to scheduled caste farmers under Schedule Caste Sub Plan on 28th August, 2019  with an aim to improve the income and living standards of the scheduled caste farmers. A total of 35 farmers (31 men and 4 women farmers), from Bomraspet and Chadurpalle villages of Vikarabad district were trained during the programme. Dr.R.N.Chatterjee, Director, DPR interacted with the farmers and highlighted the advantage of backyard poultry farming. He emphasised that rearing improved chicken varieties like Vanraja, Gramapriya, Srinidhi etc. developed by the Directorate  not only improves the nutritional security of the farmers household, but also provide subsidiary income with minimum inputs to the family and also improves the economic status of the family. Farmers were provided with training kit including extension literature in vernacular language on package of practices for rearing backyard chicken varieties under rural conditions. 

       

                                                                           

 

Vanaraja rearing in tribal villages

Induction of Vanaraja rearing in tribal villages under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) Program

 

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad introduced rural/ backyard chicken farming with Vanaraja chicken, with an aim to improve the income and living standards of tribal farmers under Tribal Sub Plan Programme. Input distribution program was organized at Mankapur (Narnoor Mandal) and Thatiguda (Pembi Mandal) villages of Adilabad (united) District on 30-08-2019. A total of 51 tribal beneficiaries were provided with grownup birds, feed and poultry equipments. Most of the tribal farmers already undergone training on “Backyard Poultry Rearing” at ICAR-DPR. A total of 650 Vanaraja birds, 700kg feed, 20 feeders, 20 waterers and medicine kits were distributed. Potential benefits of backyard farming and its management practices under free range backyard system were explained to the tribal farmers. Scientists/Officers form ICAR, DPR and about 100 tribal farmers registered under Tirupati Raithu Sakakara Sangam of Markapur were present during the programme.

  
 
 

ICAR-ILRI COLLOBARATIVE PROJECT

ICAR-ILRI Collaborative Project launched at ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad

ICAR-ILRI collaborative project on ‘Backyard Poultry Genomics’ launched on 29th  August, 2019 at ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad. The project launching program was graced by Dr. Habibar Rahman, Regional Representative, South Asia and Mrs. Roma Oli, Senior Administrative officer, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR presided over the function. Dr. H. Rahman briefed about the genesis and importance of the project. He also highlighted the importance of native chicken breeds and their improvement for the benefit of rural poultry farmers. He was optimistic about the project outcome which will help in improving the productivity of the native chicken breeds using modern scientific approaches. The project is being executed by Dr. Olivier Hanotte and Dr. Dessie Tadelle (ILRI, Nairobi), Dr. T.K. Bhattacharya, Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Dr. S.P. Yadav, and Dr. Chandan Paswan (ICAR-DPR), Hyderabad and Dr. Anil Rai, and Dr. A.R. Rao (ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi). Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR briefed about the Institute activities and narrated the role of native chicken in uplifting socioeconomic and nutritional status of rural people across India. Mrs. Roma Oli, Senior Administrative Officer, ILRI informed about the modalities and logistics in executing ILRI funded projects. She also deliberated the role of ILRI in enhancing food security through adopting scientific programmes across the Globe. At the outset, Dr. T.K. Bhattacharya, (Principal Investigator of the project, India) welcomed all the dignitaries and briefed about the knowledge gap, objectives and plan of work including time lines of the project. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Chandan Paswan, Senior Scientist. 

  
 
 

Mixed farming of backyard poultry (Gujarat)

Induction of improved backyard chicken with dairy farming in Gujarat

Mixed farming of backyard poultry with buffalo farming initiated by ICAR-DPR at Dahevan village (Anand) on 26-08-2019 in collaboration with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Anand Agricultural University (AAU), Anand. Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR distributed the Gramapriya birds to dairy farmers registered under NDDB programme. Dr.R.N.Chatterjee interacted with the farmers and highlighted the advantage of rearing improved backyard chicken varieties developed by this Directorate towards improving the farmer’s income. Shri. Meenesh Shah, Executive Director, NDDB was also present in the function and addressed the farmers. Executives and technical officers of NDDB and Dr. F.P. Savaliya and Dr. A.B.Patel, AAU participated in the function. Benefits of backyard farming with Gramapriya and its management practices under backyard system were explained to the farmers. Grownup birds, night shelter, chick feed and literature in vernacular language on package of practices for rearing backyard chicken under rural conditions were distributed to 10 dairy farmers.
