DAPSC programme at Parpalli village, Mancherial

ICAR-DPR conducts On field training programme and distributed inputs at Parpalli village, Mancherial district under DAPSC programme

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organised an on field training programme and also distributed backyard chicken variety to SC families of Parpalli village, Mancherial district on 18th August, 2023, under DAPSC Programme. During the training, practical tips on feeding and health care management of birds were provided. Importance of regular consumption of animal protein, especially chicken egg and meat, to improve nutritional status and immunity of the people was explained to the beneficiaries. After the training, 981 chicks, 450 kg chicken feed, feeders and drinkers were distributed to 143 farmers to establish small back yard poultry units as a subsidiary income provider. The programme was attended by 143 SC families. Dr. A. Kannan, Principal Scientist, Dr. M. Shanmugam, and Dr. S. Jayakumar, Senior Scientists, from the Directorate participated in the programme. Dr. M. Shanmugam, Senior Scientist coordinated the programme. The programme was also attended by elected representatives and officials of the Parpalli panchayat.

Third Meeting of National Steering Committee (NSC) on  AgriEnIcs organised  

The Third Meeting of National Steering Committee (NSC) for reviewing the progress of the National programme on Electronics and ICT Applications in Agriculture and Environment (AgriEnIcs) sponsored by  Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India (MietY),  was held in Hybrid mode at ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad on 24/07/2023.

Chairman, NSC, Dr.Aloknath De  in his inaugural address emphasised the importance of the programme and the  urgent need to design and develop marketable products that would be beneficial to the Indian Agricultural sector in terms of productivity and profitability. Dr R.N.Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR in his address stressed the importance of introducing smart technologies in livestock and poultry sector. Shri Om Krishan Singh from MeitY reiterated the expectation of the ministry for quickly developing products in Agriculture and Environmental sector as the reason for sponsoring the programme.  Dr.Alokesh Ghosh, Additional Director  presented the overall progress of the programme. Dr. Hena Ray, Joint Director, CDAC, Kolkata  presented the progress of most of the individual projects. The committee evaluated the technical and financial progress of the projects on Smart Poultry, Cattle health, e-Quality, Apple Harvester and Air Quality for the period from Jan to 21st July 2023. The committee also evaluated the nine grand challenge projects awarded to different agencies under the programme.

Before start of the meeting the Chairman and the team visited the DPR farm to see the working of multisensor developed under the project for monitoring the environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, CO2, Ammonia, particulate matter etc) in poultry farm and also the chicken  vocalization analysis laboratory established to analyse and correlate vocalization  data with bird health and stress conditions and also gender determination.  The Committee appreciated the progress of the work under the project.

National Steering Committee members, and Scientists from MeitY, CDAC-Kolkata, ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad, ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, IIT, Kharagpur, CIPHET, Ludhiana, Shere Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences, Kashmir participated in the meeting.

Distributed inputs to tribal farmers of Tummaguda village(Adilabad)

ICAR-DPR distributes inputs to tribal farmers of Tummaguda village(Adilabad), Telangana

 

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad distributed Gramapriya chicken variety to tribal farmers of Tummaguda village (Indervalli Mandal), Adilabad district (Telangana) on 21st July 2023 under the DAPSTC/ Tribal Sub Plan programme. A total of 1000 grown-up birds and feed (1000kgs) were distributed to 100 farmers to establish a small backyard unit as a subsidiary income provider. Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR addressed the farmers and explained the role of backyard poultry in sustainable rural livelihoods. Peoples representatives from local bodies actively participated in the programme and appreciated the efforts taken by the Directorate for the upliftment of the tribal farmers. The programme was attended by 100 tribal families. The team of Scientists of this Directorate interacted with tribal beneficiaries and elaborated on scientific rearing of rural improved chicken varieties to obtain maximum benefit from the birds. Dr. S V Ramarao, Dr. U. Rajkumar, Dr. L.L.L.Prince, Dr. B. Prakash, Dr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. G. Madhukar from the Directorate participated in the programme. Earlier, the Director and TSP Team visited the mother unit established by ITDA, Utnoor. About 5,000 chicks provided by the institute are being reared by ITDA for distribution to tribal farmers. The programme was organized and coordinated by Dr. B. Prakash, nodal officer, TSP cell of the Directorate.
