ICAR- DPR participated in Mahapashudan Expo-2019 at Jalna, Maharashtra

ICAR-DPR participated in Mahapashudan Expo-2019 organized by Department of Animal Husbandry, Maharashtra Government during 2-4 February, 2019 at Jalna, Maharashtra. Hon’ble Minister of state for Dairy Development of Maharashtra Government, Sh. Arjun Khotkar inaugurated the exhibition on 02/02/2019. Native chicken breeds Aseel, Gaghus and Nicobari and improved chicken varieties, Vanaraja and Gramapriya,  were displayed by the Directorate in the exhibition which attracted the attention of farmers and other visitors. Thousands of farmers attended the mela on each day and also visited the ICAR-DPR stall. Farmers showed lot of interest in learning about the different chicken varieties and also feeding management for small scale or backyard poultry. Queries of the farmers regarding chicken varieties, feeding and other management aspects were answered and printed literature on the backyard varieties was provided to the farmers. Many farmers and rural youth showed interest in adopting backyard poultry production as their livelihood. Hon’ble Minister Sh. Arjun Khotkar, Animal husbandry commissioner and other dignitaries visited the stall and appreciated the efforts being made by the Directorate for uplifting the economy and nutritional status of the resource poor farmers. Technical sessions were also organized for the benefit of farmers. Maharashtra Chief Minister Sh.Devendra Fadnavis attended the closing ceremony on 04/02/2019 evening.

  

Training on “Backyard Poultry Rearing” to tribal farmers of Adilabad districts under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP)

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad introduced rural/ backyard chicken farming with improved chicken varieties i.e., Vanaraja, Gramapriya and Srinidhi with an aim to improve the income and living standards of tribal farmers under Tribal Sub Plan Programme.To impart scientific knowledge on backyard poultry management to the tribal farmers, training on “Backyard Poultry Rearing” was organized during 4-5 February 2019 at ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad. A total of 17 tribal farmers from different parts of Adilabad district participated in the programme. Dr.R.N.Chatterjee, Director, DPR interacted with the farmers and highlighted the advantage of rearing improved backyard chicken varieties developed by this Directorate towards doubling the farmer’s income. Tribal farmers had hands on training on farm management including nursery manage, grower and breeder management and backyard poultry rearing. Farmers were provided with training kit. Tribal farmers visited Poultry farm and Dairy farm of Veterinary College, Rajendranagar.

  

  

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research Organized Training Programme  on "Scientific Poultry Rearing" for farmers

Training programme for poultry farmers on "Scientific Poultry Rearing" organized from 22 to 24 Jan, 2019 at ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad. A total of 10 farmers from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra states participated in three days training. The program was self-financed one wherein farmers borne the complete expenditure including registration fee. It was hands on practice training related to hatchery, chick, grower and adult management, health management of the poultry flocks, feed formulation and economics of the poultry rearing. Dr.R.N.Chatterjee, Director, DPR interacted with the participants and expressed need for arranging more number of trainings in the poultry and other allied fields for the benefit of the different stake holders for doubling farmers income. Farmers were quite satisfied and requested to conduct this kind of short training programme for the benefit of the more farmers.
