DG, ICAR inaugurates Trainees Hostel at ICAR- Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR inaugurated the Trainees Hostel at ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad on  22nd September, 2018. Dr. Joykrushna Jena, DDG (Fisheries & Animal Science)  was also present on the occasion. Prof. V. Prabhakar Rao, former Vice Chancellor, SVVU, Tirupati; Prof. A. Padma Raju, former Vice Chancellor, ANGRAU, Hyderabad; Directors of local ICAR institutes, Officials from CPWD and other distinguished dignitaries graced the occasion.

   

Later, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra addressed the scientists and staff of the Directorate. He appreciated the activities of the Directorate in developing several rural chicken varieties. He also accentuated to conduct research in basic sciences exploring the genomic variation among different breeds and chicken populations. He also emphasized that genetic improvement obtained by utilizing the traditional breeding programes may be augmented by incorporation of Genomic Selection/Genotype Based Selection/Marker Assisted Selection in the breeding programmes. He also narrated that the utilization of the markers/SNPs in poultry breeding program will be successful because of opportunity of obtaining large number of progenies in a short duration, maintaining larger population size at ease and determination of marker-QTL close linkage relationship. 

 

Dr. Mohapatra in his address directed the Scientists to develop a region-wise action plan for the country for development of backyard poultry. He stressed upon to study the feasibility, economics, socio-economic status of the farmers, and involve KVKs and entrepreneurs in developing the suitable models to achieve the target of doubling the farmers’ income by 2022. Dr. Mohapatra highlighted the importance of indigenous chicken breeds and advised to take measures for their effective utilization and promotion. Later, Dr. Mohapatra released an Institute publication ‘Manual on Serology in Poultry Health’ authored by T.R. Kannaki, E. Priyanka and N.R. Dhanutha.

Earlier, Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad welcomed all the dignitaries and highlighted the significant achievements of the Institute. He also appraised the house about the contribution of the AICRP on Poultry Breeding and Poultry Seed Project centres in development of chicken varieties utilizing local germplasm and upliftment of the economy of the rural marginal farmers through rearing of these chicken varieties. At the end, Dr. M.V.L.N. Raju, Pr. Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.

Improved Chicken Farming in tribal village (Birsaipet-Kolamguda) in Aspirational Districts Programme under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP)

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad introduced rural/ backyard chicken farming with improved chicken variety, Vanaraja, with an aim to improve the income and living standards of tribal farmers under Tribal Sub Plan Programme. Input distribution program was organized at Kolamguda- Birsaipet village of Utnoor Tehsil, Adilabad District on 15-09-2018. This was an initiative of Government of India under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), in Aspirational District Programme of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Team of Scientists and Officer of this Directorate interacted with tribal beneficiaries. Potential benefits of backyard farming with Vanaraja and its management and feeding practices under free range backyard system were explained to the tribal farmers. A total of 35 tribal beneficiaries were provided with 12-14 Vanaraja birds, 15kg feed, one feeder, one waterer and medicine kit per each beneficiary. Veterinary Officer of that locality was present during the programme.

Swachhata Hi Sewa activity on 15-09-2018

The staff members took Swachhata Pledge. After taking Swachhata pledge, all the staff members did Shram Daan by cleaning the area near car parking inside the institute campus. Forty one staff members actively participated in different the activities.

   
  

Poem recitation program on 16-09-2018

Scientists and technical staff members of the institute participated in poem recitation program which was organized in memory of Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

 
     
   

Swachhata Hi Sewa activity on 17-09-2018

 All the staff members did Shram Daan by cleaning the area near Generator room inside the institute campus.

     

Swachhata Hi Sewa activity on 18-09-2018

All the staff members did Shram Daan by assisting in construction of toilet for the workers who are engaged in sheds construction. Some of the staff members were also did Shram Daan by cleaning within the premises of the institute campus.

All the staff members actively participated in the rally in spreading awareness about better sanitation practices and cleanliness among the general public. The staff members also advised the vegetable vendors, in the local vegetable market, for not using plastic packets and also to keep the area clean.

 All the staff members actively participated in segregating biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes collected from the residential quarters inside the institute campus and separately putting the wastes in different waste bins.

The staff members actively participated in mobilizing the community at adopted village, Baoji Tanda, to build compost pits where organic matter decomposes to form manure. The staff members went door to door in the village to spread awareness among the villagers about swachhata and better sanitation practices.

The staff members actively participated in spreading awareness about better sanitation practices among the students of Krishi High School, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The staff as well the students of Krishi High School, Rajendranagar also deliberated on “better sanitation practices” during the program. The DPR staff members along with school staff actively participated in cleanliness activities inside the school premises.The children also participated in Swachhata Rally.

The staff members visited adopted village, Madanpally, Hyderabad where they actively participated in the rally along with villagers and school children. The rally was taken out for spreading awareness to maintain cleanliness in surrounding areas. The school Principal and staff of DPR also deliberated about maintaining cleanliness in common areas and for adopting better sanitation practices. Also conducted cleaning activities in the village premises.

The staff members visited adopted village, Madanpally, Hyderabad where they along with school children pasted drawings, related to swachhata, better sanitation practices, biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste disposal bins, at public places for spreading awareness to maintain cleanliness proper waste disposal. The staff members along with the school children taken out a rally for spreading awareness among the villagers.

On the occasion of 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Director, ICAR-DPR delivered a lecture and emphasized the importance of cleanliness. The staff members actively participated in cleaning the common areas at tourist spot, Himayat Sagar Dam, area inside the institute campus. Director, ICAR-DPR awarded the winners of the essay and elocution competitions which were organized at Krishi High School, Rajendranagar. The staff members also did cleaning activity inside the institute campus

 

 

 

TRIBAL SUB PLAN (TSP)

Induction of Improved Chicken Farming in tribal villages in Aspirational Districts Programme under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP)

  

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad introduced rural/ backyard chicken farming with improved chicken varieties i.e., Vanaraja, Gramapriya and Srinidhi with an aim to improve the income and living standards of tribal farmers under Tribal Sub Plan Programme. The program was initiated at Kolamguda (Thatiguda) and Koshagutta Villages of Adilabad(United) District on 21-07-2018. This was an initiative of Government of India under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), in Aspirational District Programme of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

   

   

Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director inaugurated the programme at Kolamguda and Koshagutta villages by distributing Vanaraja chicks along with feed and poultry equipment. A total of 57 tribal beneficiarieswere providedwith 10-20 Vanaraja birds, 15kg feed, one feeder and one waterer per each beneficiary. Potential benefits of backyard farming and its management practices under free range backyard system were explained to the tribal farmers. Scientists/Officers form ICAR, DPR, Assistant Director (Animal Husbandry), Khanapur and Veterinary officials were present during the programme.
