DAPSC at Tamilnadu on 24-02-2022

On field training cum night shelter distribution programme in the villages of  Valluvapakkam and Kayanallur, Chengalpattu district, Tamil nadu on 24 February, 2022 under DAPSC 

ICAR-DPR initiated DAPSC programme in Chengalpattu District of Tamilnadu on 24 February, 2022. Initially two villages namely, Valluvapakkam in Madhurandakam Block and Kayanallur from  Chithamur block were selected and a total of 100 SC Families were identified for the purpose.  On 24th February, 2022, a team from the Directorate visited both the villages and provided on field training to the identified SC families. The beneficiaries were briefed about the DAPSC scheme of ICAR-DPR and the contribution made by ICAR-DPR in developing new backyard chicken varieties like Vanaraja, Gramapriya etc... Brief training was given to the beneficiaries for rearing birds under backyard farming. Brooding management, nutrition and health aspects were covered. The negative impact of protein and micronutrient deficiencies on health and welfare of marginalised communities were explained and highlighted the importance of consuming egg and meat for improving nutritional status and immunity. Queries of the farmers were answered by the scientists.  For proper safe guarding of birds during night from predatory attacks and cold climate, 100 night shelters were distributed (50 in each village) to 100 SC families. Entire programme was conducted as per the latest  guidelines issued by state and central government  regarding COVID-19 control protocol. Dr A Kannan, Principal Scientist, Dr.M.Shanmugam, Senior Scientist and Vijaykumar, Senior Scientist, ICAR-DPR participated in the programme. Dr.M.Shanmugam, Senior Scientist  coordinated the programme. The programme was attended by the elected representatives and officials of both the panchayats.

World Pulses Day 2022

World Pulses Day 2022 Celebrated by ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad

World Pulses Day is observed on 10th February every year.  This year, ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad celebrated “World Pulses Day- 2022” in the adopted village of Bavoji Tanda under Mahbubnagar district of Telangana.  About 40 villagers specially women were actively participated in the programme. Farmers got aware about importance of pulses in the diet and how it be cultivated to get better yield. Dr B Prakash, Principal Scientist, highlighted the importance of pulses for better development and healthy life. He also highlighted the different types of pulses and their benefits. Dr Rajaravindra, Senior Scientist, highlighted the production system of pulses and how it will be economical for farmers. He also emphasized the productivity enhancement of other crops by growing pulses in their field. Dr Vijay Kumar, Senior Scientist coordinated the programme.

MGMG program on 21-2-2022

Birds distributed under MGMG program

Vanaraja birds were distributed to the tribal farmers under MGMG program on 21/02/22 in the adopted villages. Scientists in two teams from ICAR-DPR visited the adopted villages (Nagulagudda Thanda and Kanikarala Tanda, Keshampet mandal, Ranga Reddy District) to carry out the activity under MGMG programme. The schedule tribe farmers were explained about the importance of backyard poultry rearing and were distributed six weeks old 200 Vanaraja birds. The farmers were also informed about the feeding management of the backyard chicken. The birds were distributed to 45 farmers at subsidized price. The teams of scientists were comprised of Dr. Santosh Haunshi, Dr.A.Kannan, Dr. S.P.Yadav. Dr. Shanmugam M and Dr. T.R. Kannagi coordinated the programs.

Training Programme at YFA-KVK, Mahabubnagar

ICAR DPR participated in training Programme at YFA-KVK, Mahabubnagar

A training programme on “Management of Backyard Poultry”was organized for scheduled caste beneficiaries at Youth For Action-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Madanapuram, Kothakota, Mahabubnagar Dist., Telangana on 14 February 2022 in collaboration with ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad. Dr. B. Prakash, Principal Scientist, Animal Nutrition and Dr. K.S. Rajaravindra, Senior Scientist, Animal Genetics and Breeding participated and delivered lectures in the training programme. Different managemental practices to be adopted for rearing improved  chicken  varieties in the backyard under low input system to achieve maximum returns is explained to the farmers. The farmers are also elaborated about nutritional management of the birds during the hot summer seasons. The various queries raised by the participants about scientific poultry rearing were addressed during the programme. Five week old Gramapriya birds were distributed to 22 women SC farmers of Wanaparthy Dist. with the support from ICAR-DPR under the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Caste.
