DAPSC programme at Bopparam and Nakkalapally

Night shelter distribution at Bopparam and Nakkalapally villages of Kottapalle Mandal under DAPSC Programme 

To improve livelihoods and nutritional security of marginalised communities, backyard poultry has emerged as an important tool. Backyard poultry gives additional income quickly with low inputs, and provides access to high quality animal protein, egg and meat in rural house holds.  The Directorate has initiated the backyard poultry awareness cum inputs distribution in different villages of Kottapalle Mandal, Old Adilabad district under DAPSC programme. As part of the programme, temporary night shelters were distributed to 100  SC families to start backyard chicken farming at Bopparam and Nakkalapally villages. Forty night shelters were distributed to SC families in Bopparam village and 60 in Nakkalapally village. The night shelters will be useful for proper safe guarding of birds during night from predatory attacks and cold climate. Scientific practices on rearing chicken under backyard farming system were also explained to the beneficiaries.  Dr.A.Kannan, Principal  Scientist and Dr. S.P.Yadav, Principal Scientist, from ICAR-DPR coordinated the programme. Dr.T.Srinivas, VAS, Kotharsala, Animal Husbandry Department, Telangana and local panchayat members also participated in the programme. The programme was conducted as per the latest guidelines issued by state and central government regarding COVID-19 control.

Poultry night shelter distribution programme at Mulpur village in Andhra Pradesh under DAPSC programme

An input distribution programme to start back yard poultry farming for improving livelihoods and nutritional security of SC families was organised at Mulpur, Amruthalur Mandal, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh under DAPSC programme of ICAR-DPR on 24-03-2021. A total of 100 chicken night shelters were distributed to 100 SC beneficiaries during the programme.  The night shelters will be useful for proper safe guarding of birds during night from predatory attacks and cold climate.  Scientific practices on rearing chicken under backyard farming system were explained to the beneficiaries. Feedbacks from the farmers were collected. The programme was conducted as per the latest guidelines issued by state and central government regarding COVID-19 control. Dr. M. Shanmugam, Senior Scientist and Dr. K.S. Rajaravindra, Senior Scientist, from ICAR-DPR coordinated the programme. Dr. B. Nagi Reddy, AD, State Animal Husbandry Department, Dr. Munaiah, Mulpur VAS, Dr. P.Mounika, Amruthalur VAS and local panchayat members also participated in the programme.

Word Water Day- 2021 Celebrated at ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad celebrated “World Water Day- 2021” on 22nd March 2021. Dr. V. Ravindra Reddy, Vice Chancellor, P.V. Narasimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University (PVNRTVU), Hyderabad and chief guest of the event inaugurated the function and highlighted the importance of water in the poultry sector among the dignitaries and members of Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad) Chapter of the Indian Poultry Science Association (IPSA). Dr. M. R. Reddy, Principal Scientist delivered a talk on “Efficient use of Water in Poultry Production” and highlighted the quantum and quality of water required in the agricultural sector in general and the poultry sector in particular. There was an essay competition for students and other staff of the Directorate and the winner was awarded by the Director. Chairman of the program, Dr. R. N. Chatterjee highlighted the United Nation Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) and use of water for mankind. He also emphasized the conservation of water in daily use. A total of 50 participants from the Directorate, faculty of PVNRTVU, research scholars and students participated in the program. Dr Vijay Kumar, Sr. Scientist coordinated the program.

Certified Livestock Advisor Program on Poultry(Online)

ICAR-DPR organized the “Certified Livestock Advisor Program on Poultry” Online Training Programme for Animal Husbandry Officers 

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organized an Online Training Programme on “Certified Livestock Advisor Program on Poultry (Module – II)” during 4- 18 March 2021, in collaboration with MANAGE, Hyderabad. A total of fifteen veterinarians belonging to ten different states participated in the programme through online mode. On the inaugural function, Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR encouraged the participants to gain a good knowledge of poultry management so that they can help the rural farmers in improving their livelihoods and nutritional security. He emphasised that backyard poultry with improved varieties is a good tool for doubling farmer’s income with low input costs. Different aspects of Poultry management, breeding, nutrition, health, diversified poultry production, poultry economics, project formulation were taught to the participants on the virtual mode by the faculty of the Directorate and eminent experts from the poultry industry. The programme was concluded on 18th March, 2021. In the valedictory function, the participants expressed their satisfaction with the training programme and offered some good suggestions for further improvement.
