National Webinar on “Bio-fortified Maize Prospectus in Poultry Industry” organized by ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad 

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organized a National Webinar on “Bio-fortified Maize Prospectus in Poultry Industry” on 12th March 2021. The webinar started with opening remarks by Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR, who highlighted the importance and relevance of bio-fortified maize in the poultry industry in India. Dr. S. Rakshit, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana elaborately explained about the maize as a source of livelihood: Global and Indian Perspective. Dr. Firoz Hossain, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi has detailed about the development of bio-fortified maize, economic, availability, challenges and opportunities. Dr. B. Prakash, Sr Scientist explained the Maize utilization in Poultry Feed Industry, Nutrition, Prospectus and Demand. Dr. A. K. Panda, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA briefed about Utilization of Quality Protein Maize in broiler and layer chicken diets. Dr. S. Ravinder Reddy, Managing Director, RR Feed, Hyderabad has made an impressive presentation on Business opportunities in poultry farming. The webinar was moderated by Dr. S.V. Rama Rao, Pr. Scientist.  A total of about 75 persons from the poultry feed industry, field veterinarians, researchers, poultry farmers, and students participated in the webinar

International Women's Day

ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad celebrates International Women’s Day 

The ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad celebrated International Women’s Day observing the current year’s theme #ChooseToChallenge. International Women’s Day is observed on 8th March every year globally to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Dr. R. N. Chatterjee. Director chaired the function and highlighted the significance of the ICAR theme for this year “Women Leadership in Agriculture: Entrepreneurship, Equity and Empowerment” and discussed the various responsibilities and contribution of women in agriculture.

The Chief Guest, Smt. K. Radha Rani, Project Officer, GHMC, Hyderabad narrated the experience of different women empowerment programs undertaken under different state and central government sponsored schemes, their success and impact. Members of different Women Self Help Groups working on women empowerment shared their experience and they were felicitated during the occasion. Dr. N. Anand Laxmi, Principal Scientist, Chairman organizing committee welcomed the dignitaries. The staff of the institute, women workers and research students of DPR and members of different SHGs participated in this programme.

 

National Science day & 34th Foundation Day of DPR

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad celebrates 34th Foundation Day 

The ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad celebrated its 34th Foundation Day and National Science Day on 1st March 2021. Dr. V. K. Saxena, Assistant Director General (Animal Production and Breeding), ICAR, New Delhi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The ADG(AP&B) appreciated the significant contributions made in the improvement of poultry production particularly the backyard poultry production through the dissemination of improved chicken varieties. He also emphasized to raise beyond comfort zones to achieve the targeted objectives of the poultry sector. During this occasion, he released a bulletin entitled “Multiplex PCR for simultaneous and differential detection of tumor viral diseases of chicken” authored by Dr. T.R. Kannaki and co-workers. He also distributed the prizes to winners of the games and sports competitions organized for the staff of the Institute.

 

Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR presided over the function and highlighted the contribution of ICAR-DPR through its germplasm, technologies and extension activities. He also narrated the significance of celebrating the National Science Day programme in the Country highlighting the research work conducted by Sir C.V. Raman which led to the discovery of the Raman Effect. Earlier, Dr. M.V.L.N. Raju, Principal Scientist presented the research activities of the Institute at the August gathering. Dr. U. Rajkumar, Principal Scientist, Chairman organizing committee welcomed the dignitaries. Poultry farmers from industry, Officials from Veterinary University and scientists from local ICAR Institutes and Regional Station, Bhubaneswar participated in this programme. At the end, Dr. L. Leslie Leo Prince, Principal Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.
