Distribution of  Temporary night shelters for backyard poultry under Scheduled caste Sub Plan (SCSP) 

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad introduced rural/ backyard chicken farming with improved chicken varieties with an aim to improve the income and living standards of SC farmers under Scheduled caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) . Under the plan, SC families of Chinchalpet village, Vikarabad district were given training on “Backyard poultry farming” at ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad and were provided with 18-20 Vanaraja birds (5-6 weeks of age), 20-25 kg feed, one feeder and one drinker for each beneficiary. The SC families were rearing the birds for the last few months. To further improve backyard poultry farming and to safe guard the birds from predatory attacks and  different climatic conditions during night time, Temporary night shelters were designed and made by ICAR-DPR. On  16th January 2020, an input distribution was organised at Chinchalpet village, Vikarabad district and the newly designed 76 temporary night shelters were distributed to the SC beneficiaries. Scientists also interacted with the farmers and visited the households and provided inputs for better feeding and health management of the birds. The programme was coordinated by Dr.R.K.Mohapatra, Principal Scientist, Dr.S.P.Yadav, Principal Scientist, Dr. A.Kannan, Principal Scientist, Dr.Vijaykumar, Scientist,   Sh. A.V.G.K. Murthy, Administrative officer and Sh.D.Pratap, Technical Officer of the Directorate.
