Training on “Backyard Poultry Rearing” to tribal farmers under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP)

ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad introduced rural/ backyard chicken farming under Tribal Sub Plan Program with an aim to improve the income and living standards of tribal farmers. To impart scientific knowledge on backyard poultry management to the tribal farmers, training on “Backyard Poultry Rearing” was organized during 20-21 August, 2019 at ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad. A total of 21 tribal farmers (18 women and 3 men farmers) from Mankapur and adjoining villages of Adilabad district participated in the programme. Dr.R.N.Chatterjee, Director, DPR interacted with the tribal farmers and highlighted the advantage of rearing improved backyard chicken varieties towards doubling the farmer’s income. Farmers were provided with training kit including extension literature in vernacular language on package of practices for rearing backyard chicken varieties under rural conditions. The farmers had training on farm management including brooding management, grower and layer management and backyard poultry farming. The farmers expressed willingness to adopt and expand the rural poultry farming. This program was coordinated by TSP Cell of this Directorate.
