ICAR-DPR organize Swachhata Pakhwada - 2020

To mark a sign of respect for the father of the nation - Mahatma Gandhi, the Government of India initiated the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to be observed by every citizen across the country. ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad and DPR RS, Bhubaneswar organized a wide array of different programmes to observe the Swachhata Pakhwada during the period from 16th to 31st December, 2020.

The Swachatha Pakwada started on 16.12.2020 with the display of banners at prominent places in the Directorate. Swachhta Pledge was taken by all the staff. The Director and the staff engaged themselves in the plantation drive.

On Day 2, the staff were involved in the Digitization of office records, e-office implementation, cleaning of offices and corridors premises and weeding out of old records.

On Day 3, the staff visited the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) adopted village, Khandu Thanda, Balanagar Mandal, Mehboob Nagar District, Telangana and conducted cleanliness and sanitation drive involving village community, explained covid-19 safety measures and also reviewed the progress of ongoing Swachhta activities.

On Day 4, the staff collected biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes from common areas outside the directorate like bus stop, sale counter, etc. and involved in cleaning of area inside the institute campus.

On Day 5, the staff were engaged in the Stock taking of waste management & other activities including utilization of organic wastes/ generation of wealth from waste, polythene free status, composting of farm waste materials

On Day 6, the staff members of the institute visited the residential colonies of the Institute campus and actively participated in cleaning activity. The residents were told to keep the surroundings clean and also they were told to minimize the use of polythene bags.

On Day 7, Conducted rally in the public place to spread awareness about cleanliness among public. The staff members also took active part in cleaning the bus stop (public place) at Rajendranagar.

Celebrated Kisan Diwas (Farmer’s Day) on 23rd December 2020.  A total of 40 farmers from Bavoji Thanda, a tribal hamlet in Balanagar Mandal of Mehboobnagar district in Telangana participated in the programme. Dr. R.N. Chatterjee encouraged the farmers to continue their good work and look for avenues for sustainable farming by including poultry component in their farms. He stressed that poultry is good entrepreneurship for rural youth and women. He opined that women SHGs can take an active part in poultry farming and benefit from this business.

 On Day 9, the staff were involved in community cleanliness drive wherein the staff and sanitation workers cleaned the roads in Kismatpur village. Also the importance of segregation of waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradeable was explained to the public.

 On Day 10, the tourist spot neat the directorate i.e., Himasayat sagar was visited and nearby areas of the spot were cleaned by the staff.

 On Day 11, a quiz programme was organized on Swach Bharat for the contractual staff.

On Day 12, the staff conducted cleanliness drive inside the institute campus.

 On Day 13, the staff were engaged in the cleaning of open drainage and roads of the directorate

On Day 14, the staff participated in the cleanliness drive at the new farm and separated the degradable and biodegradeable waste for utilization in composting.

 On Day 15, an expert lecture was delivered by the chief guest Dr. R. Ramesh, Head, Center for Rural Infrastructure, NIRD & PR, Rajendra Nagar, Hyderabad on sanitation and well being. He also distributed prizes to the winner of the completions held during Swachtha Pakwada.

A press note on various activities organised during Swachtha Pakwada from 16-31 December 2020 was prepared and circulated for wider publicity and was published in the local newspapers.
